Forest Academy celebrates World Book Day
Posted on March 09, 2020
Forest Academy celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2020.
It all began at breakfast!
Dads/Uncles/Grandads/Stepdads were all invited to have breakfast together and enjoy a story. This was a brilliant breakfast, everyone enjoyed a great start to their day - adults included.
Instead of dressing up this year we thought it would be more fun to get the pupils to dress a potato as one of their favourite book characters. "Booked Potato" was born. The children had an amazing time creating their characters on potato’s - even the wonky ones.
Assembly was all about Reading Ambassadors who shared an extract from their favourite books and Mrs Beyzade was to announce the winners of "Caught you Reading" competition. - The deadline was extended whilst Mrs Beyzade sorts through all the entries. Winners to be announced soon.
Buddy Reading began the afternoon off where upon classes visited their paired class and pupils enjoyed reading and sharing books together.
With my buddy, I used my predicting skills to talk about what I thought would happen next. We also summarised what we had read to each other - Baillo Year 5 and Emmanuella Year 4
Isabella used expression and facial expressions when she read - Jessica P - Year 4.
Share-a-Story is a popular event where staff read a children’s book and pupils are able to sign up to hear which adult they would like to read a story.
Finally, to end the day - Book Swap. Paired Classes across phases were able to visit one another and swap any 'old' reading book for a 'new reading book.
DONT FORGET - Book Fair will be here at Forest Academy from Thursday 9th March 2020 until Wednesday 25th March 2020. Pupils can use their £1 book token off of any book. For every book pupils buy they will be given a raffle ticket and be in with a chance to win a £5 voucher in the raffle draw.
