Thank you to everyone who made it to our Maths Open Morning on February 6th. It was a very enjoyable event and the workshops, run by our experts from years 2 - 6, provided excellent guidance on the methods we use to solve calculations (such as using number lines for addition and subtraction or the grid method for multiplication). In the classrooms, children were investigating a given number looking for different ways to represent that number or calculations that would result in that answer. They also found interesting facts about their number. For example, did you know that in Ancient Greece and Rome there were 8 days in a week? The children worked extremely well together and produced some great posters of their findings.
Please follow the link to the powerpoint used at the open morning for more information and links to websites that are useful for practising maths at home. We are also in the process of updating our calculations policy. The addition policy is already available (follow this link) and the others will be ready soon.
If you are not clear about anything your child is doing in maths, please speak to their class teacher. We all know how important it is for us to work together so that we don't confuse children, so teachers will be happy to explain anything you are unsure about.
