Who are we?
Shirley Children’s Centre is a designated Sure Start Children’s Centre that is committed to working with families who have young children. Our motto is “Helping families to fulfil their potential” which is integral to all that we do.
With the former name of ‘Lilac House’, Shirley Children’s Centre is part of ‘The Synaptic Trust’ (A family of Schools in Croydon) and part of Forest Academy
The core purpose of Shirley Children's Centre is to improve outcomes for young children and their families and reduce inequalities between families in greatest need and their peers in:
• Child development and school readiness;
• Parenting aspirations and parenting skills; and
• Child and family health and life chances.
At Shirley Children's Centre we offer a range of services to parents from pregnancy through to when your child starts school. We aim for Shirley Children’s Centre to be somewhere you and your child can make friends and play; and you can get advice on your child’s health, family matters, help in seeking work and much more.
Whether you’re a mum, dad, grandparent, carer or childminder, we will have a variety of services to suit you and your little ones. We deliver services according to the need in the area and what families tell us they would like. Our services combine a range of fun activities, such as messy play, storytelling, singing and music that you and your children can enjoy together and adult services for those who need help claiming benefits or those who wish some support in getting back to work or training.
Shirley Children's Centre is a one stop shop of infomation and support for all families in the Shirley area. We work with statutory and voluntary agencies to signpost families to other services which may be of interest and benefit to them. Have a look at our timetable and our links to other organisations.
