Funding for the non-salaried School Direct Training Programme

The non-salaried School Direct Training is funded by tuition fees paid by the trainee who will be eligible for the standard student support package, including training bursaries, tuition fee loans and scholarships where eligible.

Once you have accepted a place on the School Direct Training Programme, you can then make an application for a tuition fee loan through Student Finance England, to cover the cost of your training. Tuition fees for a PGCE with QTS at the University of East London are £9,000.

Funding for the salaried School Direct Training Programme

These places will be funded through the Teaching Agency to subsidise salary and/or training costs. Because it is an employment based route trainees are not eligible for a student loan.

Salaried places will be paid on the unqualified teachers’ pay scale – point 1.  Currently this is £18,977
